This Submarine sandwich restaurant chain was begun in the year 1964 and have been franchising since 1974. The beginnings are worth noting. Subway began as a tiny sandwich shop by Fred De Luca and Peter Buck to earn sufficient money to help Fred in his college education. Beginning with a loan of 1000$, the restaurant struggled in the early years and then after changing the name to Subway slowly began to pick up. After struggling for the first few years, subway has created a very good name in the industry and a very fresh healthy alternative to fast food restaurants.
Subway is involved in a lot of community service and supports organizations like the cancer society, habitat for humanity, girl scouts of America and the national foundation for teaching entrepreneurship. The menu is decided by a team of dieticians and has a wide variety of dishes for everyone. The Subway is very health conscious and makes sure that all those who really want a less calorie diet can opt for one. The local all time subway favorites are the cold cut combo and the tuna. Sliced turkey, bologna, sliced turkey and turkey salami with your choice of fresh vegetables makes up for the cold cut combo. It can also be called a subway tradition. Tuna is another all time favorite and may be served with mayo, cheese or red onions and olives or bacon.
What began in a very humble way has grown to such great dimensions that you can only wonder at the class of food and taste to this excellent chain of restaurants.
